In addition to the families who live in the houses, the places inspire our work. It is the unique atmospheres that can be breathed in territories like Sanremo, it is the magic of a place like this, situated a stone's throw from the sea, that brings us to develop an original, almost tailor-made, certainly unique project.
We have been entrusted with an attic in the Sanremo area, the top floor of a 1960s building like so many can be seen on the Italian coasts. Starting from an existing building, we gave new life to an apartment that no longer met the owners’ needs and did not even reflect the marine vibe. By introducing new materials, more suited to a beach house, we were able to bring out this house’s relaxing and elegant character.
This renovation was born from a radical change in owners’ lives: they decided to move from Milan to the beach house, choosing a place that can offer a high-quality life and allows you to spend more time in contact with nature, away from the frenetic pace of city life to which they are used to.
For this reason, it was necessary to adapt the house to new needs with a new studio to be able to work remotely and a guest room for visiting friends. At Capponi GC, we have ventured into a partial renovation, obtaining this third space and, above all, reselling all the materials of the house to give it the right marine flavour. The 145 square meter house is on the top floor of the building, and it has 190 additional square meters of terrace.
It is a generously sized penthouse, whose strong point is undoubtedly the external part, which allows you to enjoy the sun and the temperate climate of Sanremo throughout the summer. Our effort was, therefore, to interpret the possibilities of this house in the best possible way, working on the partial renovation and then dedicating ourselves to the study of bespoke furniture, also choosing accessories and objects, ranging between the high-end brands made in Italy.
The first thing that strikes you when you enter this penthouse is the brightness of the spaces. We wanted to equip each room with large floor-to-ceiling windows so that even from the sofa, you can admire the sea and enjoy the sunlight from dawn to sunset. All rooms are decorated in soft colours, dominated by the light oak of the floor and the almost total white of the walls. The kitchen is also entirely with white furniture, giving the illusion of a continuous wall which then merges with the rest of the room. The result is an extremely elegant furniture in its simplicity and purity of lines.
The same effect also occurs when you go out onto the terrace, a place dedicated to conviviality, relaxation, or even just to enjoy the view and the marine atmosphere. The furniture, in fact, is perfect for a very lived-in outdoor space. The table with marble top, helpful in withstanding any weather, is generously sized and designed for many guests. The same goes for the sofa, designed with seats in synthetic material suitable for rain and, in any case, extremely comfortable and welcoming.
